Weekly Training Tip #6 - Ski Jumps

Ski-jumps are a plyometric movement that benefit an athletes ability to produce force laterally. This exercise is specific to athletes in any sport that requires lateral movements. Not only do ski-jumps increase lateral push off power, but they also improve the ability to land and cut while keeping the ankles, knees and hips in correct positions. Correct landing patterns of the exercise aid in teaching an athlete how to transfer force across the three joints in the leg, decreasing the amount of force to any particular joint at a given time. This exercise is suitable for all athletes given they can land in a correct position. If necessary modify the movement to a two foot landing and progress the movement from there.
