Weekly Training Tip #7 - Adductor Side Plank

The adductor side plank exercise is useful in isolating the adductors of the hip. The main function adductors is moving your hip or thigh towards the midline of your body. This movement is commonly called adduction. The adductors in the thigh are commonly worked in other exercise movements but generally receive a low volume in most training programs. The adductor side plank is a great exercise in isolating an athletes adductor muscles and increases stability of the hip and knee joints. When performing the exercise, if an athlete has discomfort or pain at the medial side of the knee, you can shift their body closer to the bench. This will allow them to push into the bench with the inside of their lower leg rather than their foot, decreasing the stress across the knee joint.
