Harlan is a handful with its strong inside game. When the Cyclones also are hitting from the perimeter, they'll all but impossible to stop.

Top-ranked Harlan clicked in both areas against No. 4 Carlisle and rolled to a 69-42 victory that returned the defending champions back in the Class 4A title game.

Taylor Frederick and Jess Schaben dominated on the interior and Taylor Wagner knocked down five of Harlan's seven 3-point shots to put their team in position to win a second consecutive championship in Saturday's 6 p.m. title game. It was the 51st straight victory for the Cyclones (25-0), whose last loss came to Cedar Rapids Xavier in the 2013 championship game.

Carlisle (22-3) gave Harlan all it could handle in a 45-42 semifinal loss last year, but the Wildcats simply couldn't keep up with the efficient Cyclones in this one.

Frederick, a 6-foot-1 junior,  made 11 of 13 shots on a variety of moves around the basket and scored 25 points -- 21 in the second half. She scored 20 of Harlan's first 23 points in the second half, including 14 straight in one stretch.

Schaben scored seven points and grabbed 14 rebounds in leading Harlan to a 43-19 edge on the boards. The 6-foot-1 Iowa State volleyball recruit also blocked three shots.

Wagner hit all five of her 3-point shots in the first half to finish with 15 points. Four of them came during a 20-5 burst that broke a 6-6 tie and lifted Harlan into a 26-11 lead. Back-to-back 3s by Wagner and Kayla Evers just before halftime made it 36-20 and Carlisle never threatened in the second half.

Payton Keeney led Carlisle with 13 points, Cortney Joiner scored nine and Agatha Beier eight.

Harlan was especially effective at the start of each quarter. The Cyclones scored 3 seconds into the game, 21 seconds into the second quarter, 10 seconds into the third and 13 seconds into the fourth.
