CORALVILLE, Iowa — November 3, 2025 — Ankeny advanced to the Class 5A state semifinals with a five-set win over Dowling Catholic, earning a 18–25, 25–17, 17–25, 25–17, 15-11 victory Monday at Xtream Arena.
The Hawks improved to 19–11 on the season after rallying twice to overcome early deficits. Ankeny hit .151 as a team and recorded seven team blocks while holding Dowling Catholic to a .139 hitting percentage.
Hailey Wiederin led Ankeny with 18 kills on a .275 hitting percentage. Teagan Meyer added 7 kills, and setter Mia Steinkamp added 25 assist. Dowling took the opening set 25–18 before Ankeny responded in the second, hitting .269 with 12 sideouts on 18 attempts to even the match. The Maroons regained control in the third, 25–17, behind consistent play from Ellie Muller and Kennedy Klein.
Ankeny regained momentum in the fourth set, limiting errors and using strong serving to pull away 25–17. The Hawks carried that momentum into the deciding set, jumping ahead early and maintaining control throughout. Ankeny hit .353 in the fifth set and converted seven of 11 sideout opportunities to close the match.
Muller led Dowling Catholic with 10 kills, followed by Kennedy Klein with 11 and Kaylie Klein with 9. Libero Sidney Bryan recorded 19 digs as the Maroons finished with 14 team blocks.
Ankeny advances to the Class 5A semifinals, while Dowling Catholic ends its season at 18-12.
