February 6th, 2026

CORALVILLE, Iowa – Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont has maintained its lead in the Class 1A team race heading into the championship matches at the girls state wrestling tournament.

The Rockets have amassed 105 points so far and will have two wrestlers going for titles tonight at Coralville’s Xtream Arena. This after having wrestlers place third, fourth, seventh and eighth in today’s consolation rounds.

Osage is second with 97 points and has one finalist, who will be joined by five teammates on the podium tonight. With four finalists, Denver will have the greatest scoring potential in the championship round. The Cyclones are in third place with 92 points.

Mount Vernon is fourth with 85 points and has two wrestlers going for titles, while East Buchanan has three finalists and 71 ½ points. East Buchanan qualified only three wrestlers for the tournament they have won all nine of their matches so far, eight with pins. The other victory came on a technical fall.

The five returning state champions in the field all made the finals, but no more than four will repeat. That’s because the title match at 140 pounds will feature two champions from last year. Saydel senior Colbie Tenborg, who has won championships at 130 and 135, will face sophomore Teagan Carritt of Logan-Magnolia, who is the defending champion at 140. Tenborg has pinned all three of her state tourney opponents, while Carritt has two pins and a major decision.

The other returning champions with a chance to repeat are sophomore Ainsley Hemann of Osage at 105, junior Violet Diaz of Denver at 110 and East Buchanan senior Brooklyn Graham at 190. Hemann and Graham have pinned their way to the finals. Diaz has two pins in under a minute and a decision.

EBF’s two finalists both advanced with pins in the semifinal round – third-seeded Kate Krause at 120 and second-seeded Georgia Smith at 130. In addition to Hemann in the finals, Osage racked up points with wrestlers finishing  third, fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth.

Diaz of Denver will be joined in the finals by freshman Abigail Peterson at 100, sophomore Lilli Cooper at 130 and junior Kennedy Burk at 190. Peterson and Cooper both are unbeaten. Burk, who is 30-2, faces a major challenge against Graham, who is unbeaten and has had only one of her three matches reach the second period.

The championship round tonight begins at 6:30.
