CORALVILLE, Iowa — November 3, 2025 — West Des Moines Valley earned a spot in the Class 5A state semifinals after outlasting Pleasant Valley in a five-set thriller, 13–25, 25–21, 23–25, 25–20, 15–13, on Monday at Xtream Arena.

The Tigers, now 28-12, overcame a slow start and rallied twice to pull out the deciding fifth set. Valley finished with 57 kills and nine total blocks, while hitting .152 as a team. Pleasant Valley ended its season at 29-6 with 58 kills and 12 team blocks.

Brynn Cibula and Thia Raridon led Valley’s attack with 14 kills each. Kaelynn Wieland added 10 kills and 26 assists, while Ryan Connolly and Brooklyn Brown each contributed 10 kills. Libero Myla Rude anchored the defense with 14 digs. Setter Olivia Grubbs provided 20 assists, and Valley served 10 aces as a team.

After dropping the opening set 25–13, Valley responded with balanced offense to take the second 25–21. Pleasant Valley regained momentum in the third, edging the Tigers 25–23 to reclaim the lead, but Valley again answered in the fourth. Cibula and Raridon combined for 11 kills as Valley hit .220 to even the match at two sets apiece.

The fifth set featured six ties and two lead changes before Valley closed on a 3–1 run to win 15–13.

Pleasant Valley was led by Isabelle Kremer with 23 kills on .276 hitting and Clare Yeggy and Maren Ouellette with 11 kills. Setter Mazie Sweers distributed 43 assists, and libero Addison Allaman collected 12 digs.

Valley hit .320 in the final set to secure the match. The Tigers advance to the Class 5A semifinals at Xtream Arena on Wednesday, while Pleasant Valley concludes its season with a 29-6 record.
