IGHSAU Insurance Benefits

Catastrophic Insurance

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union is pleased to continue the Catastrophic Accident Medical insurance policy for our member school female athletes in grades 7-12.

The coverage also includes student managers, student trainers and student cheerleaders that are involved in a member school’s interscholastic athletic program.  School supervised practice, game related activities and travel are all covered.  The plan includes a $1 million medical maximum with a $25,000 deductible.

The entire premium is carried by the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union at no cost to the individual member school. The coverage is underwritten by QBE Insurance Corporation and offered through Health Special Risk.

Concussion Insurance

Thanks to the support from our Title Sponsor, Iowa Farm Bureau, the IGHSAU also provides concussion insurance to participants in grades 9-12. The insurance is intended to pay accident medical expense benefits resulting from suspected concussions. The injury must be sustained while the athlete is participating in an IGHSAU covered activity (practice or play). The policy limit is $25,000 for each accident. Accident medical deductible and co-pays left unpaid by other policies are reimbursed under this program to the limits of the policy. Coverage begins September 1, 2022.
