Good morning. I hope this finds you all doing well. It is amazing just how quickly the season has gone by.

With the post season upon us, I wanted to bring a few items to your attention so there is no confusion during the state qualifying meets and the state meet.

WATCHES: There have been some questions regarding swimmers and divers wearing electronic devices, such as the Apple Watch. These devices are illegal and should NOT be worn in the pool. Rule 3-5 in the rule book states "Electronic devices shall not be used to transmit information to the competitior to transmit information to the competitor(s) during the race or dive."

SUITS: Many swimmers will buy the high-tech suits for the post season. Please be cognizant of the rules on legal suits. The rule book states the suits should be limited to the following requirements.

  1. Only one suit shall be permitted in competition (A swimmer with special needs may request accomodations for customization to the IGHSAU through the school).
  2. The suit shall be:
  3. constructed of a woven/knit textile material
  4. permeable (100 percent to air and water) except for one post-construction, impermable school name and/or logo which shall not exceed 9 square inches.
  5. Made so not to aid in buoyancy and shall not be altered to aid in buoyancy.
  6. Made with no zippers or other fastening system other than a waist tie for a brief or jammer and elastic material with the casing/ribbing in the terminal ends (straps, leg openings and waist openings).
  7. Suits with a World Aquatics marking and/or the USA Swimming approved checkmark logo, if otherwise legal, shall be legal for NFHS competition.

TAPE: A reminder that swimmers may use tape to treat a documented medical condition. The referee must be presented signed documentation from an appropriate health-care professional before permitting the swimmer to compete. (Note: divers may wear tape or wraps for support). (Rule 3-6)
