Decorah sweetened its team championship with two more victories as the second IGHSAU state wrestling tournament closed in front of another full house at Coralville’s Xtream Arena.

The Vikings got a second state title from Naomi Simon at 170 pounds and Anastasia Simon added a victory for a third-place finish at 145. Decorah, which had wrapped up the team title during the day’s first session, also got a sixth from Kamryn Steines at 190 and an eighth-place finish from Lauren Luzum at 155 in compiling 141 points.

Raccoon River-Northwest and East Buchanan tied for second with 96 points, defending champion Waverly-Shell Rock had 93 and Lewis Central 89.

Naomi Simon was among six wrestlers who repeated titles from last year and she was impressive, pinning her first four opponents and capping her tournament with a 15-2 major decision. Spencer’s Olivia Huckfelt pinned her way through the tournament for her second championship at 235, recording five while spending only 6 minutes, 15 seconds on the mat.

Also earning their second championships were Katie Biscoglia of RR-NW at 100, Jasmine Luedtke of Ottumwa and 110, Molly Allen of Riverside at 125 and Kiara Djoumessi of Waverly-Shell Rock at 140.

Waverly-Shell Rock was the only team with two champions, also getting a title at 120 from Camille Schult, who pinned Chariton’s Leah Chandler at 120. At No. 14, Chandler was the lowest seeded wrestler to reach the finals.

The other double-diigit seed in the final round came away with a championship. Tenth-seeded Colbie Tenborg of Saydel scored a 13-2 major decision over eighth-seeded Adison Musser of Anamosa at 130.

One of the biggest upsets in the tournament came at 155, where Ankeny’s fifth-seeded Haylee McGrew pinned defending champion Skylar Slade of Southeast Polk in the semifinals, handing Slade her first loss in 96 high school matches. McGrew got pinned by Missouri Valley’s Nicole Olson in the finals, while Slade came back with a 32-second pin and a 7-0 decision to take third.
