Weekly Training Tip #30 - Sprint Mechanic Series
Sprint mechanic drills are used to reinforce the proper joint positioning needed for efficient top speed running. We use them to over emphasize specific cues such as dorsiflexion of the ankle, heel in tight to the hamstring, and to claw your toe at the ground to fully recruit your posterior chain. These are best used in conjunction with a dynamic warm-up before top speed running to help hammer home the positions we’re trying to achieve to run as fast and safely as possible. The RDL to knee drive teaches aggressive knee drive to propel the athlete through the air before they cycle their legs through. "A Skip" teaches proper joint angles, "B Skip" teaches proper posterior chain recruitment for an effective cycle. This can be done anywhere and we suggest finding an open space such as a back yard or driveway.
