Class 2A Basketball Semifinals
Central Lyon 65, Pocahontas Area 44

Central Lyon will get another crack at Dike-New Hartford in the state championship game.

Addison Klosterbuer scored 20 points and Desta Hoogendoorn added 19 points and eight rebounds as Central Lyon remained unbeaten with 65-44 victory over Pocahontas in the Class 2A semifinals. Now it’s on to the title game against Dike-New Hartford, which beat the Lions 59-52 in last year’s finals for its second straight title.

They’ll meet again at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Central Lyon at 24-0, Dike-New Hartford with a 25-1 record.

Pocahontas had a defender face-guard Klosterbuer after she matched a state-tournament record with eight 3-pointers in a quarterfinal victory over Panorama. She still went 4-for-6 from deep to give her 12 treys for the tournament, one short of the 2A record she set last year.

Hoogendoorn helped take some of the scoring load off Kosterbuer with her strong play inside and Dionne Jansma added 12 points for the Lions. Afton Schlumbohm turned in a strong all-around game with eight points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Akaysa Duitscher led Pocahontas with 12 points, Carly Janssen scored seven and Megan Sump had six. Jenna Vonnahme came off the bench to lead the Indians with seven rebounds and scored three points.

Pocahontas kept Central Lyon in check early and took a 15-13 lead into the second quarter. But the Indians didn’t make another basket until 28 seconds remained in the half and Central Lyon took control, starting the period with an 11-1 run to go up 24-16. Hoogendoorn scored six points in that burst and Klosterbuer dropped in a long 3.

The Lions led 24-18 at halftime and stayed in front the rest of the way, putting it out of reach with a 13-3 run spanning the quarter break for a 53-34 lead with 4 ½ minutes left.

Central Lyon outrebounded Pocahontas 42-28 and held the Indians to 25.5 percent shooting.

Pocahontas made the tournament for the first time since winning back-to-back 3A titles in 2016 and 2017 and finished 21-5
