Competent Private Instruction

Students who receive competent private instruction and wish to participate in interscholalstic sports need to fill out the request and eligibility forms.

Internship Opportunities

Every summer the IGHSAU has one internship opportunity. This is a two year commitment where you will join us during the summer starting in mid May through the end of July. We will utilize you during our many state tournaments in the spring and summer. You will get a wide variety of opportunity in many different areas of Sport Management. This internship will include some night and weekend work outside of the traditional work week.

Scholarship Applications

Sport Advisory Committee Applications

Advisory committees serve as a liaison between coaches and officials from throughout the state and IGHSAU Board of Directors. Committees are comprised of varsity coaches and one official and chaired by an athletic director. Each member may serve one four-year term. Committees are strictly advisory in nature. Rules, concerns, complaints, ideas, etc. are discussed during committee meetings. From discussions, the committee makes recommendations to the Board of Directors for its consideration.

An advisory committee exists for each of the 11 sports. The cross country, track & field, and bowling advisory committees are joint committees with equal coaching representation from the IGHSAU and the Iowa High School Athletic Association. Typically, the committee will meet once a year following the respective state tournament. The meeting is held at the State Office (the joint committees alternate every other year between the IGHSAU and IHSAA) during a weekday and commences at 10:00 a.m. Each member attending the meeting will be paid mileage.

Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Applications

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is a 14-member group of IGHSAU female student- athletes that meets three times a year for in-person meetings. Members act as the voice of Iowa's female student-athletes and serve as a student sounding board for the IGHSAU’s Representative Council and Board of Directors.
In addition to assisting in the promotion of the educational value of interscholastic athletics, the Committee discusses issues dealing with scholarship, sportsmanship, safety (including health and nutrition) and student leadership. Members will participate in leadership seminars, awareness project(s) and will assist with selected State Tournament responsibilities. Members will also facilitate local leadership projects and provide feedback on a multitude of issues
directly impacting female student-athletes.
Two representatives will be selected from each of Iowa's four districts (NE, SE, NW, SW) with an additional six selected on an "at-large" basis. We have seven open seats for this coming year. Consideration for selection will include sports played, year in school, and competitive class. Females grades 9-11 may apply (grade for 2024-25 school year). Applications must be submitted electronically or postmarked by April 11, 2025.
